Description

Proposed metallurgical coal mine (Winchester South Metallurgical Coal Project) in Queensland's Bowen Basin, adjacent to the Daunia mine, under MDL 183. Queensland DETSI has approved the Draft Environmental Authority and the Commonwealth EPBC process is progressing; objections to the Draft Environmental Authority and Mining Lease Applications were referred to the Queensland Land Court, which reserved judgement after closing submissions in December 2025. Whitehaven is continuing feasibility studies, including synergies with Daunia; the mine has the potential to produce up to 17Mt of ROM coal a year over about 30 years. FY26 Reserves rose by 24Mt recoverable and 25Mt marketable as Inferred coal within the pit shell was upgraded and the South Pit and Northwest Pit were included. The resource includes an underground area.
