Description
As at 31 March 2026
Sierra Gorda is a large open-pit copper-molybdenum mine in Chile's Antofagasta Region (Atacama Desert), operated as a joint venture between the KGHM Polska Miedź Group (55%) and Australia's South32 (45%). The mine operates entirely on renewable-energy-generated power. In Q1 2026, work continued on preparing design documentation for a fourth ball mill. Production was stable on copper while molybdenum production rose 89% due to improved recoveries despite heavy rainfall (February) and lower Mo grade in processed ore. Accounted for by KGHM as an equity-method joint venture.
