Surface gold tailings retreatment operation of Far West Gold Recoveries Proprietary Limited (wholly-owned DRDGOLD subsidiary), located in the Carletonville/Westonaria/Fochville area of the Far West Rand (Gauteng). Acquired from Sibanye-Stillwater in 2018 (formerly West Rand Tailings Retreatment Project / WRTRP); reached commercial production in 2019. Current configuration: one Driefontein 2 (DP2) CIL metallurgical plant (600,000tpm capacity) treating material from Driefontein 5 and Driefontein 3 with tailings deposited on the Driefontein 4 TSF (500,000tpm). FWGR Phase 2 / Vision 2028 expansion underway to double monthly throughput to 1.2Mtpm: DP2 plant expansion (own elution circuit and smelter house; initial feed 600,000tpm from Driefontein 3 and Libanon dumps; completion Q1 FY2027); construction of new Regional Tailings Storage Facility (RTSF) of 800Mt capacity, eventual 2.4Mtpm deposition, 30+ year life; and 135km DP2/RTSF pipeline (90km / 67% completed, including N12 highway underpass).
